Yesterday, Allegany County Democrats held an event at Moonwinks Restaurant in Cuba, NY. Attending and speaking were Eric Massa, Candidate for NY District 29 House of Representatives, Linda Witte, Candidate for NYS Assembly-149th District, Judith Hunter, Candidate for NYS Assembly-147th District, and Allegany County Democratic chairman Lisa Fineberg-Duckett.
On the upcoming election, Mr. Massa said it is “not about Republicans or Democrats … hopefully, deep down in our souls, we are Americans.”
“I’m compelled to rise and take action,” he said. “Our nation is fundamentally off course.”
One of his goals is to remove the perception that “Democrats are powerless underdogs ready to fall under the treads of the Republican onslaught,” Mr. Massa said.
He also spoke of his military service record, the lack of protective gear for our troops, the need for a national healthcare plan, federal deficit spending, the new bankruptcy law, and homeland security. Mr. Massa also relayed the he has participated in an upcoming Discovery Channel documentary yet to be aired.
Ms. Witte’s concerns include our educational system, economy, and healthcare system.
Ms. Witte said in her travels as a nurse and a Cattaraugus County legislator, she “sees what does and does not work” in the healthcare system.
“With new people, we will force New York to take a different direction,” she said.
Ms. Hunter believes the Democratic Candidates will have strong successes this year.
In her travels, Ms. Hunter said she has talked to people in “places voting for Republicans since the days of (Abraham) Lincoln who say, ‘We have had enough.’”
Ms. Fineberg-Duckett spoke of the improved organization of the Democratic Party in Allegany County and relayed that they gave Mr. Massa his first NY-29 county endorsement.
