VP Cheney to Host Kuhl Fundraiser

Cheney is planning to host a fundraiser Friday, Sept. 22, to aid Kuhl’s re-election bid, the White House confirmed Monday.

The invitation says a “private photo opportunity” with Cheney will be held at 4:30 p.m., then a reception to follow at 5 p.m. Both events will be held at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

The invitation says the private photo session costs $1,000 per person; the reception is $150 a person.

With Bush’s low approval rating and discontent about Washington policies, Kuhl has been considered vulnerable as he seeks a second two-year term. Some political observers said the visit by Bush and now by Cheney may help Kuhl rally his conservative base in the 29th Congressional District, which runs through the Southern Tier and into Monroe County.

Massa ripped Kuhl for bringing Cheney to town, saying it is an expensive photo opportunity and “an act of desperation to bring the least popular person in American politics to hold fundraisers for you.”

The Rochesterturning site has an interesting post titled, ““Roll Call’s “Heard on the Hill” On the Kuhl-Cheney fundraiser” regarding this upcoming event.  They cite an article from Roll Call titled, “That’s Kuhl, Dude”.   I also received a tip about this story.  No comment here from me; just go take a look.

I won’t have the opportunity to attend and report on this event for my readers; an $1150 contribution is way out of my budget, and I wasn’t invited.  Therefore, I’ll have to rely on printed reports after the event, if any will be available, to provide information as to how it went.  Sorry…
