A $30 million outlet shopping center with 70 to 140 stores could be built next to the Seneca Allegany Casino in Salamanca in five years if local developers get project approvals and a new Interstate 86 exit.
Joe Roosa of Roosa Corp. in Salamanca and Louis Magnano of Park Centre Development in Olean announced they are teaming up to develop an outlet shopping center that could range in size from 300,000 to 400,000 square feet and possibly employ 300-plus workers. They also have said the outlet center could draw millions of shoppers annually.
It would be located directly east of the Seneca Allegany Casino; this is property that is not on the Seneca Nation’s Reservation and would be included on the tax rolls. The article states that it would be approximately half the size of the Grove City, PA outlet mall, and could draw 3 to 4 million customers a year.
Throughout the process, Mayor Pond said state Sen. Catharine Young, R-Olean, has been fully supportive of the proposed outlet shopping center. “It could be a huge boon to the entire region,” Sen. Young said.
