Jeanine Pirro, the Republican Candidate for NY State Attorney General, is under state and federal investigation for alleged illegal spying on her husband while she was the Westchester District Attorney. Apparently, last year, she was trying to prove that her husband was having an extramarital affair.
She came under the scrutiny of six different law enforcement agencies, including the New York Police Department, the city’s Department of Investigation and prosecutors in the Bronx and Westchester.
According to documents now in the hands of several defense attorneys, Pirro and the former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik were apparently talking about planting a hidden device aboard her husband’s boat.
Sources said the FBI and Justice Department have been asked to look into whether Pirro and Kerik also might have violated federal laws.
This information came to light from wiretapped conversations between Pirro and Kerik. They were recorded due to the fact that Kerik was under investigation in a separate matter.
Pirro stated in an afternoon news conference that the timing of the investigation is improper, and said prosecutors had no business delving into her troubled union with lobbyist Albert Pirro, who spent 11 months in prison on tax fraud charges and fathered an illegitimate daughter after their wedding.
From Kerik’s lawyer, Joseph Tacopina:
“Bernie spoke to a friend in distress regarding a domestic conflict. Nothing illegal was discussed and nothing illegal was done. I find it extremely troubling that in the midst of a federal investigation, sealed documents were leaked to the media.”
